Richard graduated from Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School in 2017 and has worked consistently since.
His first screen role was as the lead in the feature-length television drama In Dark Places, directed by Michael Bennett. Richard played Teina Pora, an innocent man imprisoned for two decades for a crime he did not commit. The film was met with critical acclaim and recently had its international premiere at theJulien Dubuque International Film Festival.
Earlier in 2019, Richard wrapped principal photography as Te Rau Tauwhare, part of the core ensemble, in the much anticipated BBC production of The Luminaries. Prior to that, he completed shooting feature film Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan. Set during the Vietnam War it is set for release in 2020. His other screen credits include Ahikāroa, the AMC Māori action series The Deadlands – based on the 2015 feature film of the same name.
